Providing Capable Guidance In Crisis…

Family Abuse Services crisis staff assess incoming calls to determine the best path of action for victims of domestic violence. The best path of action may lead to our emergency shelter which provides a place to live for 3 weeks with the option to qualify for transitional housing made available by Family Abuse Services.

Staff is trained to understand the many layers of domestic violence as well as the trauma and needs of the victims. Our shelter director, Merry Whyte, is the main point of contact during daytime hours for incoming crisis calls and is a wealth of guidance and information to clients seeking the best choices.

Our crisis line began in 1985 and has been successfully aiding victims of domestic violence throughout the years in many ways. In 2006 Family Abuse Services’ crisis line received 1110 calls.

Text Box: Abuse is not love.
Love is not abuse.
Not one accident.
Not one perceived mistake.
Not one “bad mood”
could ever explain,
justify or
otherwise validate any,
every and all forms of abuse…

From the raised fist,
to the battering blows,
to the words that slice
or the threatening knife…
There is no excuse.
